Binissalem is a charming village located in the centre of the Island and a wine lovers dream!! A traditional town with beautiful architecture and an abundance of Vineyards to discover. Having been grown in Mallorca since the Roman occupation, Binissalem is known for being one of the original sites where wine was cultivated. The wine festival is an annual event, the third week of September sees all things wine line the streets!
Locals and visitors dress up in white clothing and pelt each-other with red grapes during the exciting grape fight!! For something a bit less stressful, wine tasting tours are available with most of the vineyards having shops for you to purchase your favourite wine to take home. Worth a mention here is Bodega Ribas which dates back to 1711! This vineyard attracts visitors due to its exceptional wine and original barrel cellar and warehouse.
Binissalem also has a reputation for fine woodwork and stonework with a number of active quarries in the area. The sleepy village houses a small range of restaurants and bars, with the 15th Century gothic church of Santa Maria de Robines being the most iconic piece of architecture. The local market is held in the square by the church every Friday. Dining out in Binissalem is a more simple affair with local restaurants offering good quality food for excellent prices. Locals love the Pizzas at ES P'Dal as well as other Italian dishes.
